Cascade Cannabis Association: August 2018 Newsletter

August 1, 2018

Dear Celebrators,

We are excited to roll out our first monthly newsletter this week.  Each month we will feature a conversation with a new member, sponsor or other influencer in the cannabis community. If you’d like to be considered for a feature, please consider joining our organization, or just reach out to us.

The month of August is especially important in Central Oregon because there are some proposed land use changes that will impact unincorporated farmland.  This means your rural farmers and processors need your help to support workable regulations in the County. There is a Cannabis Land Use Public Hearing on August 28th in the Deschutes Services Building in Bend and our County Commissioners need to hear from the local cannabis community. It was not too long ago that our County Commissioners Opted Out of rural cannabis businesses but ultimately we prevailed in getting regulations passed; it was folks like you who made the difference by turning out to meetings, submitting testimony and pushing back on a loud minority who oppose cannabis business.  Want to help? Please reply to this email (hello@celebrate-cannabis.org)

Interview with Laura Breit of one of Celebrate Cannabis’ Founding Members, ColeBreit Engineering.
Laura is also a Celebrate Cannabis board member and we are so pleased to have her experience added to the team.

ColeBreit Engineering

What is it like to be an engineer working on cannabis projects?  “It’s incredibly rewarding be able to work with the growing cannabis industry. A part of the mission statement of ColeBreit Engineering is to be able to contribute to the economic viability of Central Oregon and I like many others, view the cannabis industry as one more facet of this continued growth.  As well, ColeBreit has always considered itself to be one of the stewards of Central Oregon and the ability to contribute to the cannabis industry at this early stage ensures that we can help facilitate the socially and environmentally responsible development of this industry near our home.”

2) Did you ever think you would be working on cannabis engineering projects?  “As ColeBreit is a consulting engineering firm we’ve had the opportunity to work with many many different kinds of companies, both large and small, and though I have seen a diverse array of projects come across my desk I will admit that I never expected to one day be considered an expert in the engineering behind cannabis operations.  As this industry grows and establishes best practices in regards to energy and water use as well as quality control and local impacts we quickly realized we may be able to contribute to the healthy expansion of this industry. So although I never thought ColeBreit Engineering would be designing grow rooms, extraction rooms or industrial kitchens, I’m very happy we can be part of the solution.”

3) Why did you become a Celebrate cannabis member? “I think the Cannabis industry is just getting started and I’m really excited to see how the industry contributes to the economic viability of Central Oregon.  We all know that Central Oregon has historically been susceptible to economic swings in real estate and the tourism industry, at the same time Central Oregon is a special place with a diverse array of special interests. I firmly believe that the cannabis industry could be one more leg to help support a robust local economy, and I’m excited to be a part of that.  I think the community has some hurdles to overcome and involving professionals such as ColeBreit Engineering that have been involved in similar industries can bring a level of professionalism that is often missing from any growing industry.  I see a lot of promise in the contribution of cannabis in providing good jobs to our region, and I would like to be part of the solution that helps make that a reality.”

It is an exciting time to celebrate cannabis in Central Oregon and it is our goal to get our local community engaged.  Please let us know your ideas and if you enjoyed this newsletter and share it with someone that would make a great Celebrate Cannabis member.

Best regards,
The Celebrate Cannabis Team
